It renders you immobile and it only lasts a few seconds, but you can also slide under gaps that are too narrow for even small Mario if you're on a conveyor belt, as well as being able to kill nearly any enemy by statue-stomping them from above, including otherwise-invulnerable enemies like the Rotodisk.
